Democracy
Democracy encompasses much more than elections. In fact, election day is only the beginning of what true democracy entails. EJAG focuses on democracy because it relates to most areas of our lives: where we get our food, water, energy; preserving the natural wealth around us; limiting the power of special/monied interests; and how citizens can participate in government, to name a few areas. The largest threat to democracy is the consolidation of economic and political power in the “hands” of corporations. Thus, to a large extent EJAG’s work in the area of democracy entails bringing political and economic control back to the people.
EJAG has a strategic partnership with the Portland chapter of Alliance for Democracy.
The mission of the Alliance for Democracy is to free all people from corporate domination of politics, economics, the environment, culture and information; to establish true democracy; and to create a just society with a sustainable, equitable economy.
